I made this hitch from some heavy duty scrap angle iron. My son welded it up. The entire project took about three hours. The hardest part was cutting the thick anhle iron. Ariens 1976 16 HP hydrostatic tractor. Ariens S 16 HP with a powerful Kohler cast iron 16hp gas engine. Hydrostatic drive, no gears to shift, it has a mid, front and rear pto with a class zero 3 point hitch. The rear PTO is shaft, gear driven. It weighs about 900 pounds. It comes with wheel weights, turf tires on front and rear, a 48 inch shaft drive mower deck, 3 foot 3 point hitch rototiller, snow/dirt blade and chains. The snow blade and chains were never used. I have the original packing slip and shipping sticker. This machine is a rare find. It was stored in a barn for over 15 years. Other then old gas in the tank, it started right -up. There is zero no smoke, I think the engine has under 500 hrs on it. Ariens was the in leader in rototiller technology. This tractor will out live you. I re-painted the rototller, but the rest of the tractor just has some minor surface rust. I replaced the battery and ALL the belts, new hydro filter and oil. I repacked all the grease for the gear boxes on shaft drives for the rototiller and mower deck. Lights are also new, back light are original. This nice part about the tractor is it was never worked on, all the wires and nuts and bolts are original. The hydraulic control lever has Lift, Down, Hold and Float!

- How do I turn on the Ariens Hydro Tractor for the first time using it?
My family just bought a Ariens 42" Hydro Tractor model number 93604200. It's filled with gasoline and I followed the directions in the book, but it won't turn on at all. There is no ignition sound or clicking when I turn the key. Am I doing something wrong or is the battery dead or something of the sort? Thanks.
A Makesure it is in neutral and you are sitting on the seat, this is a safety feature, also the attachment drive is off . you can check the battery with a tester if it's fine there is a safety switch that that won;t let it start. So check around?

I changed the spark plug, Changed the oil, cleaned the carb bowl. What do I do next? Please help. I have a lawn mowing job (I'm 13, and mow a few lawns) and just got this tractor, but it wont run. Keep in mind I only have about $100. I tried compression tests, spark plug sparks, carb I am unsure of what to do to clean it, and the gas has been cleaned. What now? Anyone wanna give me a running tractor or some help with this one? I live in Avon Ny, near Geneseo and Rochester.
A I used to live up that way before moving south, cleaning the carb is fairly simple - use some spray carb cleaner or a soak bath ( availible from NAPA) . Take pics or drawings of linkages/ect before removing anything. Remove the carb, disassemble in order ( lay parts out in order as well) on a clean rag, individually clean the parts inside and outand lay in order again on another clean rag- check for any worn/ripped gaskets, leaking float ( if it abosrbs gas it wont run) and replace when assembling- keep it clean! The motor parts numbers are on the flywheel shroud, youd need them for new parts. The carb should have two adjustable screws on the carb- one on top, one on the floatbowl. Turn them both in gently till it lightly bottoms, the back out 1 1/2 turns - it should be enough to let it start. When running, adjust the fuel mix screw out till motor stumbles, turn back in till it smooths out. Thats it. It should run fine for you. Kidd
