- What is wrong with this Craftsman lawn tractor?
It's a 16 hp Craftsman Lawn tractor, I am getting spark on the first crank around but nothing after that. It has a new coil but an old module that is attatched. I personally think that the module is pooched but need a second opinion, just incase I am wrong.
A Is this a refit for points? They have those point deleting kits availible somewhat cheep. The best way to see if theres still points : remove the flywheel shroud- carfully check for wires from the magneto that run under the flywheel - if it has one- it still has points. It could be the module is bad or hooked up wrong. Try this : unhook the wire from the magneto to the ignition switch - it runs out the carb (left side ) usually hooks to the throttle setup and continues on to the ign switch. Try cranking the motor and check for spark- if its still weak/ intermidant then its something with the magneto. Is it properly gapped? Use a thin piece of cardbord - from like an oil filter box - make sure magnets on flywheel are clear of rust, place cardbord between the flywheel/magneto ends - loosen the bolts for the magneto and let it literally snap against the flywheel. Tighten the bolts. Remove the cardbord. You need a very lil gap between the two -maybe its too much of a gap and isnt sparking.

- I can't get the flywheeloff my Craftsman lawn tractor. Does anyoine know how to do this?
Craftsman 21hp electric start 42" mower, 6 speed transaxle lawn tractor model number 917.271832 LT1000. I can't stop the flywheel spinning so can't get the bolt off to remove it. A screwdriver doesn't stop it moving.
A Try using a pipe wrench on the bottom end (output shaft)of the motor.... or at least engage all of the drives..... such as mower blades, transmission etc..... and make sure the retainer bolt is not left handed threads.... sometimes it takes two people to get it off.... have fun.......
