- John Deere diesel engine burning coolant?
I have a 1995 or so model John Deere Diesel and the serial is CD4039D225173 and a number below that 4039DF this is made in Saran France. The problem with this engine is that it is burning coolant but still starts up and seems to run just fine with some white smoke. i have pulled the head off of this and cannot see any visible cracks and the head gasket does not show any apparent signs of leaking. Is there any common things that go wrong with these? Thanks
A not all cracks are visible. Take it somewhere and have it tested

A It sounds to me like you may either have a internal crack in the supply pump or a check vale going out, both can be very heat sensitive, I would call a local John Deere dealership or stop in and see what they have seen. I have only had the opposite with mine
