In this video i'm showing how to ( or how I ) sharpen lawn mower blades, best to do this at least once a year, especially if you tend to hit roots, sticks, or rocks often. I rarely buy new blades, i just sharpen them, i bought these blades last summer and this is the 3rd time i've sharpened them haha And just be carefull taking them off and putting them back on, even though they aren't razor sharp they still can cut you because the bolts are very tight that hold them on. And BE SURE to wear safety glasses when grinding. On some mowers there is not blade adapters but just a start pattern cut in the blade that goes up on the spindle assembly shaft with a nut that holds it on. - My troy bilt riding mower blades will not engage when I pull up the button to lower the blades. Why?
When I turn the mower own and try to lower the blades it does not engage. The blades are will not turn. Why? The mower cuts on. I then take the brake off. I pull up the lever to engage the blades. I don't get the electrical pull that usually happens when I pull the lever up to lower the blades. HELP!
A there should be two separate levers lowering and engaging, but if this mower is different you might make sure the blades can turn and are not seized. other than that, bad belt? loose drive pulley?

A Every coupld of years should do it. Life expectancy of a mower blade depends on how much it is used and what brand you buy. The quality can vary greatly. On average they should last several years. It helps to clean them and oil them.
