- riding mower carburetor shoots gas out of top when cranked?
i have a sears riding mower. When i try to start it gas shoots out of the top of the carburetor and fills the chamber where the choke is and spills every where. Any body have any experience with this or ideas? thanks.
A one of two things FIRST your neddle inside carb is not seating, due to bad float or debri inbetween needle and seat, or SECOND, one of the valves in engine are not opening.

- I am having trouble adjusting lawn mower carburetor. I believe that it is running too lean. It will not start.?
After I spray something into intake to get started, then it will run... barely. I just finished cleaning the carb. It will actually achieve a higher rpm when I apply more choke, but the rpm's fluctuate and eventually it will stop. I have a Kawasaki 5hp snapper mower.
A When you say you cleaned the carb, what exactly did you do? Sounds to me like you still have a restriction in the carb and you are running lean. You should check the main jet for contamination. Sometimes they appear to be clean when they are only MOSTLY clean. Use carb clean and maybe a tip cleaner/wire to remove the garbage. Do it gently though as too much cleaning and you will have it a jet size or two bigger and that is not good either. Also check the fuel line for good flow as a restriction there will cause the bowl to suck dry but.... it would at least run good for a minute which is why I say plugged jets...
