- I have a troy bilt riding mower 17 and 1/2 horse 42" cut and the belt keep stretching out on it?
I have a troy bilt riding mower and when you put new belts on it the long belt stretches out of shape in no time and won't pull does anybody know what the problem could be? and I was wondering for people who owns troy bilt mowers what is the biggest problem you-all have out of them?
A First, belts don't stretch. They wear on the sides. As they wear they ride deeper into the pulleys giving the impression that they have stretched. If you are wearing belts at a fast rate you have some problem either with installation or one of the pulleys is bad. Make sure that you are installing it correctly, make sure you have the correct belt and check all the pulleys for freedom of movement, alignment, and general condition.

A You could have a stuck inlet or exhaust valve. Drop the side off the valve cover and have someone start and run the mower for you. You might see if the valve is functioning correctly under load. It does sound like one of the valve seals is letting oil through in copious quantities. However, there is noting to say that a piston ring has broken and causing the same as you describe. Sometimes it is not at all too easy when the mower is not in front of those wishing to help you out. XX
